I've written an essay for the online comics and literary magazine Solrad about the evolution of Young Adult and Coming-of-Age as genres.

Last year, I was invited to teach two workshops at The Animation Workshop, in Viborg, Denmark, but due to the actual circumstances, the workshops were taught online.
Still, I had the privilege and pleasure to mentor the talented group of students of the Illustration Professional Training Course who created all these amazing comics only in the last two weeks. They excelled all my expectations and I couldn't be more excited to share the result with you all.
I'm so happy and proud to have been part of this experience and I hope we get to meet, someday, and draw together again in 2021!

Amadora Comics Festival
ComEdu Exhibition @ Amadora Comics Festival
From October 27th until November 3rd, you can visit in Portugal the exhibition of our project, ComEdu: Comics for Education. I designed the set and curated the show along with some of my colleagues. We also directed a workshop and a presentation during the festival.
The exhibition features works from 20 different authors, myself included.
Comics, as a visual narrative, allow us to communicate complex ideas in a simple and engaging way, giving us the ability to understand relevant topics and ideas based on a story and created with paper and pen.
This exhibition is the result of the first international meeting in Riga, Latvia in January 2019, where 20 artists and educators from Latvia, Estonia and Portugal over the course of a week created comics on topics and subjects relevant in youth work. The main purpose of our comics is the possibility to use them in non-formal education. We are taking advantage of comics' educational qualities, readability and appealing features.
The exhibited works and reproductions were born in collaborative processes that included elements from the three participating countries. The comics will become tools used by youth workers, educators, teachers and students and also available to be shared and distributed in schools, educational and social centers, libraries, museums and other places of cultural and educational interest.
Participants: Catarina França, Daniela Viçoso, Maria Goes, Joana Mosi, Andreia Alves, Vítor Marques, Giulia Corrascello, Laura Kõiv, Leene Künnap, Liisi Grünberg, Maari Soekov, Dace Andersone, Mark Antonius Puhkan, Brigita Medne, Dasha Goga, Irina Spakova, Dagne Aaramae, Mari Jõgist, Normunds Ozols, Kristīne Martinova, Kristi Markov, Amanda Baeza, Sanita Muižniece, Sintija Lase
ComEdu: Creating Comics for Education is a strategic partnership between Grafiskie Stāsti (Latvia), NGO Mondo (Estonia) and Rota Jovem (Portugal), supported by Erasmus +: Youth in Action.
Comics Workshop @ FVP
On 17th of July, I was invited to spend a day with the kids of FVP Foundation, in Telheiras, in Lisbon.
We spent the day together talking about and making comics. The children had to depict their neighborhood in pictures and text, drawing about what they saw and what got stuck in their memories.
It was a nice and fun way to introduce comics as a form of writing, thinking and preserve memory.
Throught this link, you can access the FVP blog and read some of the comics that were made.
No dia 17 de Julho, fui convidada a passar o dia com o grupo de crianças da Fundação Vox Populli, em Telheiras, em Lisboa.
Passámos o dia juntos a conversar e fazer Banda Desenhada.
This Summer, I had the pleasure to start working with a new school, Nextart, in the center of Lisbon. During the month of July, I conducted two distinct summer courses: Introduction to Comics and My Own Story in Comics.
It was a very fun and energetic experience. Each course had 4 sessions, for 2 weeks. Both courses repeated in the second fortnight of the month, which means I had the chance of getting to 4 different amazing and diverse groups of students.
Introduction for Comics had a more technical approach to comics language. My Own Story in Comics was a experimental course, that used the intertextual language of comics applied to fun games and exercises.
For both courses, I re-used and adapted some exercises, teachings and lessons by Lynda Barry, Ivan Brunetti and Paul Klee.
Starting November, I'll be then teaching a longer comics course for people who want to develop a project of their own. The classes will be divided by exercices and autonomous work. My main role will consist in tutoring and monitoring the process of each student, individually.
So, If you happen to be around Lisbon, make sure to apply.
I'll post more news some, but here's some pictures from the summer classes for now.

World Book Day - April 23rd
For the last month, I've had the pleasure to work with the National Reading Plan, who invited me to illustrate and design the official poster of World Book Day's march, and collaborate in the planning of the event itself.
Students, teachers, book lovers, authors and many others marched together in the center of Lisbon to promote reading, love for books and literacy.
Besides the poster, I also designed this open-book-shaped flyers, that could be held by the students during the march.

CoimbraBD Comics Festival Feedback
Last weekend, 9 and 10th of March, I was in Coimbra for CoimbraBD comics festival.
I monitored two workshop sessions about Comics and Micro-narratives about daily life.
On the first session, we made a little zine about ourselves, drawn by other participants.
The second session was more introspective; the guests were challenged to draw a four panel comic inspired on a personal theme.
Here are some pictures:

Last week, I was invited to visit Du Bocage High School, in Setúbal, to direct two workshops: one for 7th graders and another 11th graders, majoring Arts.
It was a very energizing experience! Before the workshop, I had the opportunity to speak in the auditorium about Comics, Visual Thinking and Communication, and also about my work as an art teacher and comic book artist.
Thank you so much for this opportunity! Can't wait to come back :)
Here are some pictures I took during the workshops:
