Hello! On 17th of July, I was invited to spend a day with the kids of FVP Foundation, in Telheiras, in Lisbon. We spent the day together talking about and making comics. The children had to depict their neighborhood in pictures and text, drawing about what they saw and what got stuck in their memories. It was a nice and fun way to introduce comics as a form of writing, thinking and preserve memory. Throught this link, you can access the FVP blog and read some of the comics that were made.

Hello everyone! This Summer, I had the pleasure to start working with a new school, Nextart, in the center of Lisbon. During the month of July, I conducted two distinct summer courses: Introduction to Comics and My Own Story in Comics. It was a very fun and energetic experience. Each course had 4 sessions, for 2 weeks. Both courses repeated in the second fortnight of the month, which means I had the chance of getting to 4 different amazing and diverse groups of students. Introduction for Comics had a more technical approach to comics language. My Own Story in Comics was a experimental course, that used the intertextual language of comics applied to fun games and exercises. For both courses, I re-used and adapted some exercises, teachings and lessons by Lynda Barry, Ivan Brunetti and Paul Klee. Starting November, I'll be then teaching a longer comics course for people who want to develop a project of their own. The classes will be divided by exercices and autonomous work. My main role will consist in tutoring and monitoring the process of each student, individually. So, If you happen to be around Lisbon, make sure to apply. I'll post more news some, but here's some pictures from the summer classes for now.
Hello there! Last weekend, 9 and 10th of March, I was in Coimbra for CoimbraBD comics festival. I monitored two workshop sessions about Comics and Micro-narratives about daily life. On the first session, we made a little zine about ourselves, drawn by other participants. The second session was more introspective; the guests were challenged to draw a four panel comic inspired on a personal theme. Here are some pictures: On sunday 10th, I hosted a open talk with different female comic artists: Joana Afonso, Rita Alfaiate e Sofia Neto. We talked about our work, creative process and answered some questions from the public. At last, I finally got to hold my new book - The Other Side of Z - that was published by Kingpin Books in partnership with ComicHeart and Gfloy - Portugal, simultaneously in Portuguese and English languages. The book will be officially presented next saturday, 16th March, in Kingpin Books store, Lisbon, by 4pm.

Last week, I was invited to visit Du Bocage High School, in Setúbal, to direct two workshops: one for 7th graders and another 11th graders, majoring Arts. It was a very energizing experience! Before the workshop, I had the opportunity to speak in the auditorium about Comics, Visual Thinking and Communication, and also about my work as an art teacher and comic book artist. Thank you so much for this opportunity! Can't wait to come back :) Here are some pictures I took during the workshops: |
